Joseph Ira Patterson Jr., 68 years old of Bridgeville, left this world Sunday, June 28, 2026 in Allegheny General Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born August 3, 1957 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; son of the late Joseph and Nadine Dalton Patterson, the youngest of their two children.
Joseph was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System, attending 5th Avenue High School. Joseph proudly served in the U.S. Marines. After completing his military service, he returned to Pittsburgh until moving to Huntington, WV in the early 1980's. He was employed by the US Army Corp of Engineer's for several years followed by various employment, gaining experience in many areas to carry him through his life. He returned to Pittsburgh in 2003. He worked as a housekeeper at Country Meadows Nursing Home, where his caring nature was evident. He had a knack for cars and was a talented detailer, working at South Hills Toyota until retiring due to illness.
A devoted fan of music and basketball, Joseph was also a mentor to many and was affectionately known as "Papa Joe", "Bones", "Slim", "Big Joe", "Big Dog", or just "Joey". He had a special place in his heart for those who were hurting and never hesitated to lend a helping hand whenever he could. To many, he was more than a friend, he was family. If you truly knew Joey, you knew exactly where you stood with him. Full of life and warmth, he never met a stranger and had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald, nephew Omar, paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jacqueline Grabowski Patterson, who he married on June 27, 2009 after being together for 6 years. He is also survived by a son, Joseph I Patterson III; daughters, Leia Patterson and Jocelyn Patterson; invaluable son, Michael Jobe, grandchildren, Joseph IV, Ta'Niya, Marianna, Mel, Dream, Kailynn and Kamila, a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He will be missed by many.
Friends will be received on Saturday, July 11, 2026 in the Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services 3378 Millers Run Road, Cecil, PA 15321 from 11am - 1pm at which time a celebration of his life will begin, until 3pm when a military service will end the celebration.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
