Margaret Katha Lina Battista

Margaret Katha Lina Battista, 92 years old of Hickory, died Saturday, July 29, 2017 in Washington Hospital.

She was born September 18, 1924 in Germany, daughter of the late Karl Will II and Margaret Will ge borene Mangel.

On November 8, 1947, in Bad Nauheim, Germany, she married Paul Battista, Jr. who died Sept. 21, 1994.

She traveled 12 days on the "Barry" a 500 foot ship, from Germany to New York with her infant son to reunite with her Army husband. They then traveled and settled in Muse, PA.

Margaret became a citizen of the U.S. on November 13, 1951.

She was a Homemaker, an excellent cook and bread maker. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and gardening. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Muse, Christian Mothers and Helping Angels Quilters, 4-H leader and superintendent of arts and crafts at the Washington County Fair. She also was a volunteer at the Hickory Apple Festival and Ag Days giving demonstrations on how to make butter and homemade noodles.

Surviving are four sons, Ralph (Barbara) of Meadowlands, Paul (Nanette) of Hickory, Donnie (Jan) of Cape Coral, Fl., and Ronnie Battista of Hickory, and daughter Diana (Bob) Bissett of Hickory; eleven grandchildren, Sheila (Art) Hackinson, Renea (Brian) Cook, Janet Hamilton, Karen (Eric) Cooke, Jody (Brian) Laucher, Heath (Michelle) Battista, Lisa (Dan) Johnson, Nikki Battista, John Battista, Maria (Chris) Barnes, and Demi (Justin) Murnane; seventeen great grandchildren, Amanda and James Hackinson, Justin Hamilton, Matthew and Mitchell Cook, Leigha and Troy Cooke, Lillian and Shane Johnson, Chaz and Savannah Laucher, Nathaniel and James Blanchard, Dillon and Ashley Battista, Lincoln Barnes, and Grayson Murnane. A sister, Elfreda Will of Petterweil, Germany, sisters-in-law Rose Lowry and Mary Selva.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, and sister Elizabeth, sisters-in-law, Elaine Basso and Catherine Thomas, Brothers-in-law Raymond Battista, Ray, Renato, and Primo Selva

Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017 at the Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road (Rt. 50) Cecil, PA 15321

Christian Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church, Muse, PA on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Father George DeVille officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the church.

Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
